With its Planet Me programme TNT is aiming to drastically reduce CO2 emissions. The results are now also being included in the annual report. By 2020 TNT’s target is to improve the company’s CO2 efficiency by 45% compared to in 2007.

The ambitious objective is a 45% improvement in CO2 efficiency by 2020, compared to 2007 levels. TNT sees the objective as a commitment to action – one that establishes its company-wide ambition level and underscores its commitment to environmental efficiency.

The Guidelines for Consignment-level Carbon Reporting will help consumers and businesses assess the carbon impact of transporting products and drive carbon efficiency in the freight and logistics sector.

<![CDATA[Peter Bakker receives 'Sustainability Leader Award']]> http://planetme.tnt.com/index.asp?page_id=61 SAM and SPG, two leading sustainable investment companies, announced today that they are granting their Sustainability Leader Award to Peter Bakker and their Sustainability Pioneer Award to Ashok Gadgil, a scholar at Berkeley.

The jury commended Bakker's 'innovative corporate citizenship' and TNT's 'integral approach towards sustainability' which encompasses the long-term partnership with the WFP, the Planet Me programme and the linking of manager compensation to non-financial goals.
 
Each year since 2001, the award is given to 'two individuals who have provided extraordinary leadership or done pioneering work on behalf of sustainability and business success.

<![CDATA[TNT starts carbon-free tricycle deliveries in Paris]]> http://planetme.tnt.com/index.asp?page_id=59 TNT Express France has started using tricycles to deliver light parcels in the centre of Paris. The carbon-free service will initially cover the 3rd arrondissement of the capital before extending to the entire city heart by June 2010. The initiative is conducted in cooperation with Green Logistics / Becycle, a new company specialising in ecological transportation.

TNT already makes tricycle deliveries in eight other French towns (Lyon, Bordeaux, Saint-Etienne, Dijon, Nancy, Rouen, Grenoble, and Valence). “Three other city centres will follow during the first half of 2010,” said Eric Jacquemet, the president of TNT Express France. Cargo tricycles have proved reliable, efficient and popular for inner city deliveries. They are an answer to noise, pollution, and traffic jams.

<![CDATA[TNT India’s road safety record dramatically improves]]> http://planetme.tnt.com/index.asp?page_id=55 From 22 out of 44 road fatalities in 2007, down to just three in the first six months of 2009: this is the stark improvement seen in India’s road safety track record in just two years. 

This palpable success is down to the introduction of TNT India’s Road Safety Management Systems (RSMS) and Road Safety Plan in April 2008. “Training and management focus have been paramount throughout this journey, while driver amenities, such as restrooms and hub facilities, have been improved significantly too,” said TNT India’s Corporate Responsibility Director Jay Parkhe.
