TNT Express greens Dutch and Belgian fleets

175 environmental friendly Mercedes Sprinter vans will replace the entire fleet of delivery vans at TNT's Dutch express business and half of the delivery vans at its Belgian operations, Logistiek reported. 'TNT Express initially considered choosing for natural gas-powered or electric delivery vans, however decided in favour of the Mercedes Benz Sprinter with clean Euro 5 EEV diesel motors. A special board computer provides the driver with direct information about his way of driving and the impact on fuel consumption and the environment.

Dutch Consortium for the Tender of Electric Vehicles

Global mail and express delivery company TNT and 30 consortium partners signed a unique agreement to collectively purchase 3,000 electric vehicles.

The purchase represents a commercial investment of €150 million. By introducing a large-scale fleet of low-emission vehicles on the market, the consortium aims to stimulate future demand for environmentally responsible technologies.


TNT China launches first electric vehicles

Recently, two TNT China drivers set-off from the Shanghai Pudong depot for a 70-kilometre trip to pick-up and deliver customer goods. But this trip was unlike any other: their vehicles consumed no fuel, released zero CO2 emissions, accelerated efficiently and made little noise.

17 May 2010 - In the last four weeks, TNT participated in a number of tests with aerodynamic SideWings which help reduce noise, CO2 emissions, and fuel consumption of trucks. These tests reiterate TNT's commitment to PART20, a platform which develops aerodynamic devices by combining the know-how of scientists from the Technical University of Delft with the practical experience from partners in the transportation industry.

On 22 April, the Sustainable Procurement symposium was held at the Huys te Britten centre in Katwijk aan Zee in the Netherlands. Thirty customers from the government, energy companies and broadcasters participated in this inspiring symposium. After a word of welcome by Ger Jacobs, commercial director TNT Post, symposium chairman Frenk van der Linden introduced the speakers and asked critical questions after each presentation.


Clean Car initiative to boost efficient transport

Cleaner Car Contracts

A group of six Dutch-based environmental organisations is hoping to stimulate demand for fuel efficient transport. 

The group, led by the not-for-profit Netherlands Society for Nature and Environment (Stichting Natuur en Milieu), has initiated the Cleaner Car Contracts programme to mobilise Europe’s largest lease companies and fleet owners - arguably the most influential force in the new car market -
to advocate European demand for more fuel efficient cars.


China campaign stimulates ‘green’ employee habits

Employees at TNT Express China have demonstrated the power of personal engagement.

About 1,500 employees took part recently in a unique engagement campaign to stimulate a reduction of CO2 emissions at home. The badge redemption campaign, called “Me in Family”, encouraged employees and their family members to ‘green’ their day-to-day lives by adopting 10 environmentally positive behaviours.

TNT is aiming to drastically reduce CO2 emissions with its environmental programme, called Planet Me. By 2020, its target is to improve the company’s CO2 efficiency by 45% compared to 2007.

While working in the Social Responsibility department, Carin ten Hage was asked to head up Planet Me and she was immediately sold on the idea.

"With our Moving the World programme, which revolves around our partnership with the UN World Food Programme, we demonstrate our commitment to society through our competencies as a transport company,” said Ten Hage, Planet Me Director.


TNT announces ambitious CO2 efficiency objective

Today, TNT announced, for the first time, its CO2 efficiency objective during a press conference, hosted by CEO Peter Bakker and CFO Henk van Dalen.

The ambitious objective is a 45% improvement in CO2 efficiency by 2020, compared to 2007 levels. TNT sees the objective as a commitment to action – one that establishes its company-wide ambition level and underscores its commitment to environmental efficiency.


WEF agrees carbon reporting guidelines

World Economic Forum

The World Economic Forum’s Logistics & Transport Industry Group has agreed standard guidelines for calculating consignment-level carbon emissions from logistics and shipping operations.

The Guidelines for Consignment-level Carbon Reporting will help consumers and businesses assess the carbon impact of transporting products and drive carbon efficiency in the freight and logistics sector.
